Legume Intercropping for Weed Control Efficiency in Kharif Maize (Zea mays L.) under Amritsar Conditions

Background: Maize is referred to as the “Queen of Cereals” since it has highest genetic yield potential. So, being a rainy season crop, suffers badly due heavy weed infestation reducing potential yield. Intercropping with legumes effective technique control infestation. Therefore, this study focused on evaluate legume intercropping for efficiency in kharif maize (Zea mays L.) under Amritsar conditions. Methods: A field was carried out effect “Legume conditions” at Student’s Research Farm, P.G. Department Agriculture, Khalsa College Amritsar, during Kharif 2021-2022. The experiment consists six treatment combination which were tested factorial randomized block design three replications. consisted T1 - sole maize, T2- paired row T3- + green gram (1:1), T4- (2:2), T5- black T6- (2:2) and two management practices i.e. weedy check pendimethalin 0.75 kg ha-1 (pre-emergence). Result: results indicated that (1:1) system registered considerably lowest density both monocot dicot weeds 25 DAS (58.14 m2) 50 (61.72 also significantly lower dry matter (2.06 q ha-1), (4.58 75 (5.88 ha-1). recorded (17.57 %) (16.38%) DAS. grain (38.85 ha-1) achieved followed by (37.68 (33.41 (2:2). equivalent benefit-cost ratio superior all systems than pure stand crop. (66.78 benefits: cost (3.6) obtained (3.31) (2.5) (1:1). Pre-emergence application gave substantially at25 (56.05 m2), (57.97 (2.16 (4.03 (5.35 (30.97%) (27.98 over check. Significantly higher (36.94 (8.87 (58.45 (3.19).
